The Inner of Nature is a 1662 square meter space that skillfully incorporates grille elements throughout its design. These elements not only distinguish different materials within the space but also contribute to the overall design temperament. They allow the beauty of Eastern aesthetics to unfold in a lyrical narrative, subtly revealing the inherent nature of the space.
Chang's design is unique in its approach to nature. It is not just about physical contact with natural materials, but also about the nature of behavior and thinking. This perspective forms the key spirit of the design, enabling it to resonate with people on multiple levels. A good space design, according to Chang, carries a self-explanation function, clarifying its distribution and temperament even without description.
The project, completed in 2017 in China, is not just a surface symbol or an imposition of internal cultural elements. Instead, it offers a relaxed expression of Eastern beauty. The space functions as a club where one can feel the atmosphere of humanities and nature, a symbol that is present without being emphasized.
Chang faced several challenges during the design process. He believes that evoking a natural feeling is more important than merely imitating a natural scene. A good design should be quietly good-looking, comfortable for users, and feel beautiful rather than just look great. This philosophy is evident in The Inner of Nature, where the space layout creates a condition for human communication inside the space, offering a quiet and comfortable feeling to those who immerse themselves in it.
The Inner of Nature was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Chang's design, admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
